Hi all,
There is a team made of 10 developers; 3 seniors and the rest either mid or juniors. One of the seniors thinks that he is "more" senior than the other (he just called himself that...
So, here is my question.
I was wondering how would you deal with someone that calls himself the best of the best developers and yet he has not done any coding in 3 years lol, actively refuses to code pretending that his work must be done as a team effort( aka other doing his work, his 2 years long project was finished by other 2 developers in 3 months....) and micromanages the heck out of everyone.
The word on the street ( read around watercooler) is that he cannot do any development ( it is pretty much a fact) and his politics are counterproductive for the group. On top of that he literally controls the physical access to code libraries ( cds, dvds, devices) , makes his problem to be the group problems, and bubbles up every little thing he encounters.
His estimates of other people tasks are just ridiculously short while for his own (which rarely happens) there is a huge amount of padding ( a good example is for some basic queries about 1 week lol).
We have tried several tactics to change him but none of them worked. Have to admit, the guy is an extremely good talker; he could probably sell anything to anyone ( like the upper management, who is clueless when it comes to development and they swallow whatever the guy says).
Ive never seen anything like this in my entire life and career.
ANd yes, I moved on, starting a new job in 2 weeks:)
