Hi Jon,
It is perfectly possible to develop an application without doing any OO. The question is if it is effective. I agree with the statement often stated that it is not the best way, but for your first application, I think is the only one available.
So based on my experience:
1. Develop your first application as you used to, take a minimal approach to OO. Implement classes for functionalilty from your current library, by wrapping related functions in objects for example.
2. Use the project manager. Drag and drop from there
