Hi Charles.

I've been to Inverness, never saw Nessy though... but just found all the Highlands beautiful!

I've watched some of the videos, and they are good quality stuff. They seem to be made by the Amarillo College, if I'm not mistaken. I've read in the forum that if you buy them, MicroFour gives you some of their own material, you could check that with the guys. So, yes, if you like training videos, as I do, you will probably find them worth getting.

>Thanks, Ivan

>You mentioned the videos at Stratatrain. I checked out the site last night and I'm very intersested ( as I mentioned to Gary, I did the 30 hours of training videos for VFE so I'm a big believer in the concept ) Have you seen them and what do you think? Are they done by Micro4 - I missed any reference to them on the strataframe site but see they were done in Amarillo .

>>>Hi Ivan -

>>Hi there Charles.

>>>I'm evaluating Strataframe now. Do you find that you can customize and extend the framework as we do in our VFP frameworks by creating your own 'subclasses' ( I realize they are not really done that way in .net ) and not have your modifications over-written if a new version comes out? For example, if you wanted to add some methods to the business object or the maintenance form, could you protect your enhancements from an 'upgrade' of the framework. ( I get the impression that since you pick the objects you add as you create a project you can choose your own versions if you have made mods, but I don't really understand how 'inheritance' works in the .net world yet )
>>
>>Well, what to say after Gary's anwswer. He does this just because he is some 4 hours ahead, I expect I will have to wake up earlier in the morning. :) It's difficult to add something to what he says, as I'm usually learning from him. I do use my own template forms, and that is easy to accomplish.

>>
>>>Have you tried using any Infragistics stuff or other 3rd party tools with it?
>>
>>Yes, I use Infragisics 7.1 components currently. It integrates with no problem. There are some of them wrapped by StrataFrame, while others you just use straight from the Infragistics toolbox.
>>I also use DevExpress, the XtraReports component as my ReportWriter engine. I haven't made up my mind about this report engine yet, but this is what I'm using now. And SF also wrappes DevExpress components, in the same way it does with Infragistics ones.

>>
>>>I really like what I have understood so far - the business object idea is of course very familiar to me as a Visual FoxExpress user - and I like the way they objectify data.
>>>What do you think of the Database Deployment toolkit?
>>
>>I like it. The DDT allows for creation of all SQL Structures and then you create a package of it, which can be used to deploy all structures and initial data to the customers, no need for scrips.
>>You will base all your BOs on the DDT structures.
>>Another thing you can do is to create a "fake" table in the DDT that won't be deployed to the SQL Server. So, you just create your "temp" table structures in the DDT, and go to the StrataFrame BO Mapper and map it as any other table. Talking about local cursors...
>>
>>
>>>I'd certainly be interested in anything you had to say about Strataframe.
>>
>>Well, I just tried to add something on the top of what Gary said.
>>Hope I could help Charles.
>>
>>Abraços.
Ivan
