>>>>John, you're dreaming if you think anything worthwhile is going to be done. The legal system (I'm talking judges and lawyers here) has way too much invested in keeping criminals going round and round the system. Judges and lawyers don't have to put their lives on the line like cops do. To them all it means is income.

>>>That would be true if they could keep it hidden. I don't think I'm going to let them do that. I'm also going to be highlighting a "career criminal of the week" on my blog and talking about what's being done for these super criminals. I'll also monitor the jail to see whenever one of these get's arrested. I'll post their record and then link to the court system so their "progress" can be tracked. I've got a newspaper editor wanting to do a story on this and we're going to meet next week. Now what do you think? I don't play fair, you know!<g>

>>I don't have much sympathy for career criminals. The thing is, I doubt even your 'hot-plate' approach would make a lot of difference to them. Of course, with less time on the outside, I suppose they'd have to end up with less 'career'.

>Ah, now you see the light!

Oh, this is a light I've always seen. I have believed for many years that our judges are far too lenient in far too many cases. I love it when a judge says that this is one of the most heinous and horrible crimes he's ever seen, and gives the perp a couple of years less a day so it's not a federal offense. We have a number of cases of house arrest verdicts for rape. The latest I know of is in Saskatchewan where 3 men raped a 12 year old girl. They were give 2 years of house arrest because the judge accepted their contention that the fact that she accepted a ride and a beer meant the sex was consensual.

Whenever something like this happens, everybody gets up in arms, but still nothing much changes.
