Fisk looks interesting. The most interesting part was seeing a column about Shakespear. I'm reading a chapter in a book right now comparing present day US to the days of the Roman and British empires. Shakespear was mentioned as a source of good historical information on the Roman empire at the time.

It is shocking and not surprising at the same time to read quotes from the British empire at the time describing their justification for colonizing India and see how similar bush's comments are when he gives his justifications for attacking Iraq.

>That would depend, Ed, on which views you have in mind: That most of us know so little of what's really going on; That the D 'n B group rely on our trained response to saber rattling; That most of us appear to spend so little time questioning authority and investigating current events against our overwhelming interest in Sports and Entertainment; or that Fisk's book is a must read?

>>>Dear Tracy,
>>>
>>>I've been reading the responses to your post on the release of the British Sailors and I must say that, for the most part, I'm disappointed with the response of the majority of those replies.
>>>
>>>What is amazing to me is that most of us here in the USA know so little about what's really going on in the world, especially the Middle East, and also know so little history about the area and the people who populate it.
>>>The Dick 'n Bush neocons rely on the pavlovian response to saber rattling that an overwhelming portion of our people exhibit: unquestioning, champing-at-the-bit-to-nukem-back-to-the-stone-age prejudiced hatred. If those who mindlessly back to dominant "Bomb'em" response spent as much time in a month trying to understand what's going on and why it's going on as they do in a single day immersing themselves in the sports/entertainment arenas then maybe Dick 'n Bush wouldn't have been elected in the first place. Then maybe we wouldn't be in the spot we're in right now.
>>>
>>>I would suggest to those who would like to educate themselves on the middle east - the problems, the history - read Robert Fisk's column in The Independent (http://news.independent.co.uk/world/fisk/) for starters. His book 'The Great War For Civilization' is also a must read for anyone interested in finding a solution to the situation we are all in.
>>>
>>>Sincerely,

(On an infant's shirt): Already smarter than Bush
