I wasn't referring to you. I don't disagree with what you said, but I'm not moving on just yet. Lots of life left in the old Fox. Will I eventually? Of course (or I'll sub out all my work and just manage the projects), but I'm not sure I'll find a language as concise, powerful, and fun to program in as VFP. And it's hard, at the moment, to define "evenutally." I see increased complexity in .NET. M$ thinks they should take the bloatware idea from Office and apply it to programming. When you try to put everything under the sun in one package, the complexity will, by default, increase.

>FWIW I am very far from being a Microsoft butt-kisser. They should have been nailed a lot harder than they were in the antitrust case a few years ago. But I was neither surprised by the no-VFP-10 announcement nor disappointed by the way it was handled. It could have just as easily happened a year ago, 3 years ago, 5 years ago. Would we have been better off that way? Instead we have VFP 9, which IMO is reasonably "feature complete," and a 3-5 year timeframe (IMO) in which VFP will remain a viable choice, especially for smaller businesses. I have on my desk right now an RFP for a FPD 2.6 to VFP 9 conversion. You never count your chickens in these situations but I think my proposal will be accepted.

>Personally I prefer not to dwell too long in the world of "What if?" Each of us is in a business, even if it's the business of our own careers. If it makes people feel better to sign a petition, fine, sign the petition, but it isn't going to change Microsoft's decision. We need to figure out what we're going to do next, both short term and long term. It shouldn't be an emotional decision. What can I do now to put the most money in my bank account and satisfy myself most professionally? How best to move on? That's the way I look at it, anyway.

>>Shill is a nice way of putting it. I think of some of these guys as just M$ butt-kissers.
