Why are we (still) here?

The existential question that is posed by this thread has been around for a very long time, and I mean a very very long time. Wars have been waged by people who answered it differently for thousands of years and some still do, so the there must be something about this question.

I think it is important that we debate it. I also think it is not worth going to war for it.
