Jordan has already made valid points, so I won't go there. However, your comment above bothers me. When did it become ok to outdo the other guy? This is not a game of one-upmanship. Just because Al Qaeda is decapitating people does not make it ok or 'preferred' if the U.S. were to do the same. Just because one person is abused does not make it ok for him/her to continue the same treatment later in their lives.

America is guilty of a lot. Much much more than is ever brought to light in the media. It really wasn't until the Iran/Contra deal that the citizens of this country got a picture of what our administration is capable of and could possibly do without their knowledge. Amercan's were comfortable saying 'Not in America' but now that is not the case. Yet, our citizens want more. The world wants more of us. Perhaps they expect more of us than other countries. America is being attacked politically on all fronts right now. All of her bad deeds are NOT ok. That does not make it ok for anyone else to do the same or worse. No one is attacking other western countries for their history nor the rest of the world for the same. America is trying to do better and hopefully during the next Presidential term will. To be fair, those involved in the interrogations of the past are either being punished or will be. We have Gitmo to deal with still and I hope it will be brought to light and dealt with (we 'citizens' really don't know what is ocurring there). I am well aware of Turkish methods of interrogation Metin. A country where those who torture or kill in the name of the state escape prosecution. The recent program where human rights bodies monitor local police stations will hopefully eradicate such actions. Turkey is making huge reforms in this area. I think America can do the same. It is not ok here either. I don't think you ever read anything posted by anyone here who thought it was. We are not the only country with problems that need to be fixed. Where is your passion for Darfur? There are many other places in the world right now that need attention and help and are not getting it.
