And it wasn't mine originally. I picked it up in graduate school in the 80's, though I have no idea who said it then. Our department was pretty much divided between people working in C and people working in Pascal; I was part of the latter group. (Actually, we also had the AI people working in LISP, which we said was an acronym for "Lots of InSignificant Parentheses," and which I could read and somewhat write at the time.)
