Might be only a perception.. There are many things that come from outside without americans even knowing it. Eye-laser treatments came from russia. The mobile phone took off in europe. The first artificial diamond from eastern europe. The magical anti alcohol - drunk pill from the KGB. The first IVF baby in Brittain. The compact cassette and the CD in the netherlands.
The point is that innovations are made everywhere, but that does not really matter. It is about applying the available technology to do something very usefull and impressive with it. The same is about this silly war about programming languages. Let your product speak in stead of trying to impress with the underlying programming language.
