In terms of only an ASP.NET app accessing Crystal (not the users directly) which functionality is missing from SSRS?

Hi, Evan, I've been meaning to respond to this...

At DevTeach I'm doing a session on comparing and contrasting Crystal and SSRS, so I'm not sure if I'm actually allowed to give away too many contents before the presentation is made available. ;)

SSRS might have a bit of a nicer interface, but there are many key options that are missing (and available in Crystal). Here's one large example (and if someone wants to correct me, I'll be happy and can scratch this one off the list)....

SSRS doesn't have any option to keep a report group on the same page, in situations where part of a group appears at the bottom of the page and the remainder at the top of the next page. Every report app I've done has had several reports with groups that needed to stay on the same page. SSRS doesn't seem to give me that level of control. There are others, but that's certainly one example.

Many people bitch (with some justification) about Crystal's interface and other quirky aspects of the product. I'll grant you, CR's designer is not for the faint of heart, but when it comes to core reporting functionality and advanced formatting features, CR remains the best game in town (for now)

Kevin
