>Well think about it for a second... you said VFP programmers wouldn't be hurting now if they had done the .NET thing 3 years ago. Then you said that .NET has problems with it's I/O capabilities (and apparently SOME of them are being addressed in LINQ).

I never said anything about I/O problems. I posted about O/R problems. FYI, just about every language suffers from it. Even VFP, although Fox has a pretty good solution to it.

>SO people should have done the .NET migration?... to an inferior product 3 years ago that isn't even going to match the I/O capabilities this year?????

A problem many people are having over the issue is panic that they have over no more Fox. Part of that is due to data handling. Part is due to thinking about rewriting apps (which I never said people need to do). Part is due to having to learn a new language. If people had learned .Net three years ago, some of that panic would be gone. Perhaps a re-read of my blog regarding the announcement is in order. Notice that I said continuing to work with VFP is an option. Moving to .Net is an option. There are others.

The way people are reacting, you'd think the world had ended. Guess what, life continues.

I'm in the same boat as many VFP developers. I have only played with .Net and written one very small app with it. I'm learning it now and posting my experience on my blog. I suggest you read the entry going up tomorrow.

>People should have done the .NET migration thing when by your own admission the VB.NET developers (the Microsoft folk) do not understand data even to this day????

Did I say that? If I did, show me the link, but based on your misquotes above, I'm not so sure I did.

>As for "picking your battles", your error in that is the the petition is not a "battle" at all. Not even a skirmish. It is a simple and peaceful and elegant way of trying to effect some change to a policy/decision by the people who are adversely affected by that policy/decision. And YOU are one such person too.

Jim, it's not your decision to pick and choose what I do or don't do, sign or don't sign. I have not criticized one person for signing or not signing. I have criticized the petition itself, but no one personally for their decisions on it. I expect the same respect.

As for how Microsoft's decision affects me, it's my decision on how it affects me. I can roll over and play dead, scream and shout, or move on. I choose the latter.

This is my last post in this thread. Too much time has been wasted when I could be learning and advancing my skills. You can reply if you so choose, but I won't respond.
