If you think you'll eventually output the data, does using listenertype 3 and rendering it first save you rendering it again when you output it?

Depends... if you use the same listener reference and don't re-run the report, then currently, in SP1 and earlier, I think you have to use OutputPage() and manually send the images to a print job.

This is much easier to handle in SP2, because the ReportListener class gains a new method: PrintCachedPages(), which does exactly what you think it does.
