I find no reference to a function named EXISTS. Is that your UDF or what is it? Youa re trying to pass the return from an SELECT to a UDF is what it looks like. I would suggest doing it this way;

SELECT ... FROM ... WHERE ... INTO CURSOR Result
IF _TALLY > 0
