It is like coffee or tea. You can have one or the other depending on the moment, even while you can usually prefer a beer. 8-)

You hit the nail on the head, typed datasets will yield larger productivity gains in an application with big reporting requirements. (that's not to say they don't have benefits in other apps, they do).
