Quite obvious: MS does not use Foxpro itself, they don't have any vfp code valuable to them (other than some components of the VFP IDE done with VFP, which is rather selfcontained). Etechnologia can maintain their intellectual property and additionally have a new product to sell, so the vfp compiler for .net has double value to them.

Besides that I also agree MS would have a hard time, maintaining VFP.Net backward compatible. Although I doubt VFP developers would insist on the backward compatibility they are used to with such a major change.
