>Uh, excuse me, but I believe abstinence works each and every time a person abstains. Abstaining from abstinence is what doesn't work! If you stand at the door and pass condoms out as they leave each day, what do you think will happen? Hey they are giving them out, they must want you to use them. It's a no brainer.
Well, yes, abstinence does work each and every time. But that's like saying if you want to lose weight, just don't eat anything. That would work, it just wouldn't be a reasonable expectation.
I am not AGAINST abstinence. As the father of two teenage daughters, I have more than a passing interest in the subject. I'm just a realist as well. You may not be as young as you were when that picture was taken but I doubt you're so old you've forgotten what it's like to be in high school with your glands on fire. The abstinence crowd wants them to ignore what most of them spend half their thoughts and energy trying to obtain! Given that, I think it's wise to educate kids about things like prevention of pregnancy and STDs, as well as abstinence. Most of them will snicker at the abstinence part but it's worth a try.
Do they really stand at the door and pass condoms out every day? Somehow I doubt it. I bet any teacher or administrator who tried it would be fired faster than you can say Don Imus.
