>>>Your perception is not correct. To obtain a gun legally, you have to be over 18 and go through a background check, and you have to license the gun. There isn't much we can do about people obtaining guns illegally, just as there isn't much we can do to prevent the sales of drugs.

That's true, of course, but I honestly believe that desensitisation is a serious issue. When one is inundated with graphical images of killings day after day, one can become desensitised to the horror of it.

Let's look at one small item, and before I say this, please realise that it is not meant as any sort of moral judgement. You can go out and shoot a deer and not be bothered by it. Why? Because you were raised to it. I was not, and I simply could not do it. You are desinsitised to the death of the animal you shoot. I am not. This is not a jab at hunting. It is just an illustration of the difference between being desensitised and not. I'd bet (and you may correct me here if you like) that the first time you killed an animal, you had a different emotional reaction to it than the latest time you killed one.

I also realise that hunting is real and movies are not, but images can stay with people. If you did tests, I think you'd find that the first time someone saw blood and gore in a movie they'd be far more affected by it than the 500th time.
