I once attended a meeting of veteran programmers - some of the guys who were working on 2nd generation computers (yes, all those wires :). I was acting as a representative of a co-sponsor (i.e. my company bought the booze). Informally, they accepted me as an apprentice veteran ;).

So though that bunch were quite OK guys to hang out with, and I sometimes feel I'd rather do some coding on my own instead of catering to the whims of them pesky users, it still isn't that interesting. Them pesky users present more of a challenge than what I could conjure myself :).

IOW, I still wouldn't retire yet even if someone paid me to do no work.
