This format is for an invisible button (old 2.6 or 2.5 for dos...)
the V is to position in a vertical row ...

I knew keeping those old 2.6 manuals for "historical" reasons would come in handy for something!

It has been FOREVER since I have looked at any of that, while converting an old 2.6 application with some older code still in it ... The app was built on top of Tom Rettig's framework!
