Ok, but there is a difference between very graphic gratuitous violence and most literature where there is far more going on than killing. I've never read a book that would be on the same level as so many video games I've come across in the stores, or the movies that are so filled with gore.
I have a feeling (and it is only that - a feeling) that kids would become bored far more easily reading such a book than playing such a game or watching such a movie.
