It would appear so. Which is why the occasionally inspiring candidate like Barack Obama gets our attention. He doesn't come across as partisan, just a passionate guy who wants to do some good in the world. And he doesn't seem beholden to interest groups. (This makes him dangerous to them, of course).
There was a great picture in the paper the other day taken at an Obama speech. The whole shot was filled with people, thousands of them. The ones close to him were reaching out with their hands. It was like a picture of a rock star in concert. Some say that's all he is, a media rock star. I happen to think he's deeper than that. Every generation or so we get a President who is worth getting worked up over. I think he's the next one.
