>I wouldn't be surprised if you're right. Please don't take this as ethnic profiling but from what I have seen Asian-American parents have very high expectations of their children. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. What's important is that kids know their parents will always love them no matter how badly they screw up. They need that core. Does that mean anything goes? Of course not. But it gives you a lot of credibility when you try to steer them in a different direction if they know you love them.

Mike no need to qualify your statement. I'll be the first to admit that Korean parents can be very agressive and overbearing when it comes to education. Too many of them tend to over emphasize education and forget about balance in ones life.

I guess it all comes from that fact that not too long ago Korea was still a very poor country. Or it could very well be that the Korean parents are more prone to live thru their kids and feel that what their kids become is a direct reflection on them.
The American Republic will endure, until politicians realize they can bribe the people with their own money.
