I'm planning a VFP application that will monitor a web site for particular file updates, and upload & download new updates to & from the local network or drive. I was thinking FTP would be more simple and efficient than using HTTP for the file transfers, but I cannot find any documentation on the use of FTP file transfers from within VFP - I've looked here in the KB, and in Advisor.

The procedure would be to create and manage a list of files and file descriptions, updated with any new files on the web site. The user would select the files they would like to keep updated, and a destination directory. VFP would monitor the site, download any updated ZIP file, and unzip it into the specified directory.

Am I right about FTP vs HTTP? Where can I find more about managing FTP through VFP?

BTW - if there's already an application somewhere that does this, I'd just as soon buy it!

TIA
