>>>Maybe one time in history all hands were getting sick from tainted pig or shellfish, so it was sensihble to avoid them, but we don't now. Why do Judaism and Islam still follow proscriptive rules/laws laid down by some old fogies millennia ago?

>>Same reason why any religious folks still follow age old laws that have no point any longer. They've become tradition by now. Even though the Catholic church repealed the Friday 'no meat' law, there are still people who refuse to eat meat on Friday.

>Aye, but Christianity seldom proscribes much. As you said, that rule was repealed. Even in force it was so often broken, and it was only RC anyway (and they're weird!). And it was hardly a hardship (how many people could afford meat every day anyway?), and not proscribing meat - period. Why can't the other religions move with the times? I'd like to know why they're kept in "The Dark Ages".

Sure the rule was repealed, but I've never heard it was retroactive. So, to paraphrase George Carlin, there are still millions of people doing eternity on a meat rap.
