The DDEX "provider" is a wrapper around the VFP OLEDB driver that presents the data design details in VFP databases/tables in a format that can more easily be understood in the designers and server explorer parts of Visual Studio.

I think you already understand that from the comments above, but wanted to make sure no one thinks that the DDEX "provider" is a substitute for the OLEDB driver.
