I was going to quibble about the present tense until seeing the end of your message. I drive by where he died several times a year. It's only 15 miles or so from where my daughters live in Wisconsin. He had just played a show at Alpine Valley (world's worst rock venue in terms of getting in and out) when his helicopter crashed. Weird that he and Otis Redding died less than 100 miles apart.
