>Jeez Charles, if it weren't for our opinions on guns, we could be related. Do you actually remember Maria Muldaur from when she was Maria D'Amato with Kweskin?

If it's any consolation, when she was with a jug band I pretty much had the same opinions of guns you have now <bg> But she married Geoff and I fell down a rabbit hole in '68 after they killed Bobby.

>I don't see Helen Humes in your list anywhere.

Gave short shrift to the whole Big Band era though my collection doesn't. Count Basie is certainly there - as are Bob Crosby and the Bobcats, Beiderbecke, lots of Lady Day, lots of that benzedrine drumming from Krupa ...

Oh god, now more stuff is coming

Mingus - Goodbye Porkpie Hat
Joni Mitchell of course her own stuff but also the covers like "The Urge for Goin'" and the Mingus album ( which I liked but Mingus didn't )
Only mentioned Coltrane in the context of Kind of Blue but he was the soundtrack to my college years and I went to his funeral.

Ronnie Hawk

Of course Lou Reed - Walk on the Wild Side e.g.

Oooh, just remembered Jukin' the Manhattan Transfer album from before the current incarnation of MT - contains one of my all time favorites. Impossible to find but if you ever do you'll treasure it

ONE MORE TIME AROUND ROSIE
By Gene Pistilli and Geoff Gutcheon

Rosie got religion
Learned it on the farm
Got to New York City, lined a (censored out) in her arm
Got to New York City, Leroy led the way
Made her somethin' special doin' business on Broadway

One more time around Rosie
Hey I'm tuggin' on your sleeve
Won't you give me just
One more time around Rosie
The bus for Cincinnati gettin' ready to leave

Out from Redfield South Dakota
All her friends went to LA
Guess her mama never told her she shoulda flown the other way
'Cause Aunt Betty drive a Cobra up and down the Sunset Strip
In the same old nasty business, but there's cowboys in her ______________.

Yeah gimme
One more time around Rosie
Yeah, let my __________go, yeah
Won't you give me just
One more time around Rosie
One more time please kindly take it slow

One more time around Rosie
Slap me right between the eyes
Won't you give me just one more time around Rosie
Lift me up and slap me with your thighs

I hear Leroy livin' good now
Reads the daily news, drives an eight track El Dorado
Sportin' high Italian shoes
He owes it all to Rosie
Who's the shoes that coin them uptown hotel movies
That made that little Brownie a star

Yeah one more time around Rosie
I'm the one who likes it upside down
Won't you give me
Just one more time around Rosie
Your favorite boy from Muncie's back in town

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
