Invoking the reportlistener shows no vertical lines in my HTML report, the same report printed directly to printer or previewed show the lines fine. What could possible be the matter?

HTML output is not guaranteed to 100% visually identical to preview or printed copy. It's HTML for goodness' sake, it has limitations in what it can be made to do. The fact that you can look at the HTML output and all you notice as "wrong" is some lines are missing, is a testament to the skill and hard work that went into creating the XSLT that converts the VFP-RDL XML representation of the report into HTML.

An other thing: Editboxes show in HTML files "ugly" up/down arrows in the hard-copy printed version of an HTML file in IE7, IE7 shows no arrows on the screen, could this easily be avoided or does it require an chrtran() conversion to get rid of these characters? Strangly enough the arrows donot show in FireFox when hardcopy printed but do show on the screen!

Do you mean the scroll-bars? I can't help you with how different browsers decide to render HTML to the printer in different ways...

There is a way to set a parameter in the XSL transform so that expanding text regions do not use scroll bars. These XSLT parameters have been exposed for easier access in SP2. I recommend downloading SP2 and taking a look at the new Advanced Properties for reports, especially the HTML.TextAreasOff property, if you want to try changing how the HTML output is rendered.
