Not to get argumentative, but the whole "best to do it in a SP" idea is getting a bit of a workout here. There is nothing wrong with manipulating data in the application (a la Linq or with already-existing DataSet methods). The SP does not have to do *everything* and in fact, may not be suited to do *everything*.

The only statement that *I've* made regarding SPs being "best", is that most DBAs want to limit access to the database through SPs only. I don't remember what others have said or implied, but this is that *I* meant by it.
