Surprisingly (or in my case I should say not so surprisingly) this has happened to me in Colorado and in two separate counties here in North Carolina. Believe me, it is terrifying when you have small children. Even more terrifying than the bobcat in my backyard because rabid animals are unpredictable and I don't need to even mention the health risk. I called the cops once who then called animal control but as we are out in the county and not inside the city limits, there is no service for rabid animals. Who knew the city line was so important, especially when animal control here is paid with county taxes, and not city taxes...

>>I cannot tell you the number of times I have had to call on animal control (in the county and in more than one county) to respond to rabid animals or packs of wild dogs. Their response amazes me - they always want the citizen to capture the animal and then they will cart it off. I actually had one show up and say to me "What exactly do you expect me to do?"

>Wow! Here, if you call about a suspected rabid animal, animal control will be out quickly and take care of it.
