>From that I can only conclude that Linq is supplying a feature for VB.net and C# that VFP has had all along.

>The usual rebuttal is that it allows queries against just about any imaginable data source apart from a database, which VFP has never had. But you're right: in-memory querying and processing are things we took for granted since at least FP2.0. There's a bit of history on this topic... suffice to say that I'm just delighted to see gurus like Anders H promoting the feature as a positive for NET and even mentioning FP by name as an example. Things just keep looking better and better. ;-)
Hi john, I agree that Linq is going to be a big step forward. However still got my concerns in some limitations of linq. It would be interesting to read more about it and have some examples. Please keep me updated on that.
Yes, this discussion has been interesting. It has been showing that the .NET developpers here all have their own data access strategy based on what they are comfortable with. It also showed some serious pitfalls (handling NULL values in SPs for example) on their approach. It really dissapoints me from a knowledge pov, using arguments of 'doing it the .NET way', which is humbug as there is no '.NET way' of handling data. Anyways, I have hope that transparantly handling data, as it should, (dynamic SQL generated by an intelligent data engine, like VFPs remote views), would improve a lot with this new development. It certainly looks like Microsoft is making work out of handling data as proven by the interview with Anders. We'll watch were this is going.
Interesting times..
