What we did was to create a ScheduledTasks application that runs in background.
It was superior for us because since it's another VFP application it was easier for us to control schedules + what to run + changing parameters etc. The parameters are saved as a serialized 'object' and a jobhandler takes which jobs to run and delegates to handlers.
