Naomi,

IMHO you go out of your way to be helpful on UT as much as if not more than some MVPs. If you are feeling besieged elsewhere, just remember that when communicating online, sometimes people can be unwittingly cruel and may cause hurt that they would never contemplate if you met face-to-face. IMHO we also need to consider that there are important cultural differences between people who have grown up in different communities. Suffice to say that some communities make it a virtue to speak bluntly while others expect obliqueness and elaborate courtesy. It's not just between countries- compare behavior between people in NY City and people living up in the Finger Lakes in the same State. ;-) Now move online and watch the fun as all these behaviors are mashed in together.

Also consider that sometimes there is an "in-group" and if you get offside with one of them for whatever reason, the in-group ostracizes and punishes you, rationalizing that they're simply protecting themselves when actually they're being bullies. I don't know if that applies here, but it's a real phenomenon I've seen more than once online.

There is another issue: online forums have value whether relying on a subscription or not. Referencing other forums diminishes that value. Were you warned by owners/sysops not to reference other sites but kept doing it?

Anyway, I'm sorry to hear you've been banned elsewhere. Perhaps this lends some support to Michel who has been criticized for banning certain people but his bans were always for causing a stink, not for posting a solution that happened to reside elsewhere.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
