>>>>>Kind of odd, but for different users on the same box the number of visible QuickLaunch programs before it shows the little double arrow is not the same. There is plenty of room on the Taskbar, but it only allows 3 icon before the 4th one goes into the dropdown (dropup?) to save space. For another user it allows 8 before the ninth goes up into the double arrow world. I can't find a reference anywhere to changing this number. Anyone know about this? Thanks!

>>>No, this is different (I think). I'm talking about the QuickLaunch, immediately next to the Start button in the bottom left corner. To the right of QuickLaunch is what I believe you're referring to. That has to do with the current open windows; if 3 IE windows are open, it will group them. The QuickLaunch is used to start programs. Keeps your desktop clean.

>>You should be able to uncheck the "Lock the Taskbar" option on the context menu when you right click on the taskbar. Once you do that, you should be able to expand or shrink the quick lanch menu.

I like to expand my taskbar to double the default height, and move the Quick Launch menu up to be an entire row. That way I can make shortcuts all the way across. I also add new toolbars to create groups of links, like to our production systems, my development tools, etc. It's pretty slick.
Very fitting: http://xkcd.com/386/
