it sounds like the SQLServer engine is doing a Delete and Append when processing the Edit request and that there is a table level rule that links the table you are working on to the other table. But that should also affect the plain Delete.
Is it just a certain subset of records or all records that give the error when you try to accomplish an Edit ?
