However, when I set up the icons (in both of the places you mentioned) I pointed to the file in the file system, and the property sheet seems to see it. On the Application tab of the project's properties is the place to choose the icon. I notice that you can find one from a file or get it from a Resource file. I don't usually bother with putting them in a Resource file, I just browse to one on my machine.
