Now there's a sign that someone never uses metric :-) No-one uses the in-between "deci" or "deka" prefixed measurements (and in volume: "centi").

Your Guiness would be served as .47 Ltrs or 473 mls.

Centimeters are used for general rough measurements, mm for carpentry, etc. and buying fixtures & fittings (e.g. 1407 mm drop of blinds), food by the Kg, timber by the metre, cough mixture and car engines by the cc. :-) AFAICR, in physics, SI units generally use the big units, like Kg, Metre, Litre

OTOH spirits are in bigger measures now that they've gone from gills to "mills".
