Probably what's happening is the printer is going into graphics mode to print the barcode. Almost certainly this is required for at least the barcode in order to get acceptable quality.

In a perfect world the report would print at draft speed everywhere except the barcode. For DMPs this usually means embedding escape characters in the report output. If you are able to modify the report you could do something like this:

- put an escape sequence at the very top of the report that switches the printer to draft mode
- just before the start of the barcode, switch to graphics mode
- just after the barcode, switch back to draft mode

If you can't modify the report you might try sending the print job to a text file, parsing that file and inserting escape sequences as above, then dumping the text file to the appropriate printer.
