Here is a great highlights clip of the game. It's the radio call, not Al Michaels, but fun to watch anyway. My self-proclaimed peerless memory of ancient events isn't as good as I thought. Mark Johnson, who was in Cyndi's class and took first communion along with her, scored the tying goal, not the winner. That was Mike Eruzione.
http://www.sportsbybrooks.com/miracle-on-ice-broadcast-without-al-michaels-12075.phpI had forgotten that Vladislav Tretiak, considered by many to be the best goalie who ever lived, was yanked in that game. He had let in a couple of goals. Apparently there was zero room for error when you were on a team that was not expected to lose, ever.
It must be weird to be Mike Eruzione. You do something at 20 or 21 that you can never possibly exceed. So what do you do next?
