>Other documents I have read about gasoline rationing indicate that 17 states began rationing on May 15th, 1942, and by December of that year all states were rationing gasoline. The national maximum “Victory Speed” was 35 miles an hour.

I grew up with so many stories of my family in the Blitz over Liverpool - their hiding under the stairs (the last part of a house to remain standing usually), talking to their favourite cockroach therein, et al, that one afternoon, whilst walking in our nearby village, an aeroplane droned lazily across the sky and I ran for cover!
- Whoever said that women are the weaker sex never tried to wrest the bedclothes off one in the middle of the night
- Worry is the interest you pay, in advance, for a loan that you may never need to take out.
