http://bradchoate.com/weblog/2001/04/27/ibm-pcjr-nostalgiaMy "first" was a dedicated piece of word processing software that came with a Panasonic "Typing Station". The USMC hadn't bought into the whole PC revolution yet, so nobody could order one. But we could order the "Typing Station" to replace typewriters. (Go figure!)
It was basically a proprietary CP/M-based PC. The "word processor" also came with a complementary "label manager" intended for mail merges that I pressed into service for mailing list management.
I didn't even realize I'd been using CP/M until I got my first PC, started learning DOS, and then realized I could actually *convert* the older "label files" to dbfs. Those were heady days when I realized i didn't have to retype everything!
