I can't answer how, I just do it. It's never been a problem. I can read on an exercycle, too, but find it hard on any of the more intense cardio machines. On the treadmill, I sometimes (not often enough) get so absorbed in what I'm ready that I'm surprised my time is done. And I am doing a fairly tough work-out. 3.3 mph, incline changing and going as high as 10-12%.
