>>I recently had some minor surgery on the sole of my foot. They had to give me a local anaesthetic so they injected it into the sole. The doctor said beforehand "this is one of the most painful places to have an injection" and he was right.

>GNNNNNG! I squeam at the thought of that! How about the dentist's novacaine needle in your gum above the front teeth, right next to the vegus nerve?

Since childhood dental trauma ( they used stone drills in those days ) have made me dentophobic, my dentist understands he needs to give me full novacaine before he can even clean my teeth. and he further understands I get one hour of max mix nitrous before he shoots me up with novacaine.

I don't mind the dentist so much anymore. Sometimes before he gets to the novacaine I tell him I just remembered a previous commitment and leave ...

>>>>What's it like to get a shot in the stomach? I'm as brave as any other guy but the thought of it gives me the heebie jeebies. I picture the needle about a foot long. Maybe it's one of those things that sounds scarier than it is.

>>>
>>>It was pretty close to 40 years ago, but I remember it was a very big needle and I just couldn't believe they were really going to do it. I actually thought is was some kind of hazing thing. I'm not at all squeemish about needles but yeah, that one really freaked me. Heck of an incentive not to pet strange animals, though.

>>>>>>I don't know this for a fact but have heard treatment of rabies consists of a series of shots in the stomach. That is probably no big deal to a woman who has undergone childbirth but my reaction is Just Shoot Me.

>>>>>>>For some reason, NC has a high number of rabies cases every year. Here in Guilford county, there were 37 confirmed cases in 2006 - the highest in the state.

>>>>>>>>>Hate to spoil your enjoyment, but I regularly see foxes out in the woods. Foxes tend to not come out in the open though, so if one does, it usually is desperate or ill. Stay away from it. I once had a rabid fox leap onto my car while I was stopped at a stop sign in my rural area. It ran across the road to house on the land there and ran straight to the house. They had to catch it and turn it over for testing and sure enough, it was rabid.

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
