I sometimes marvel at what a good idea they are, and how they keep the traffic moving, instead of those interminable start-stop-start-stop cross-roads with traffic lights that you seem happy to endure.
They are a big help, once the locals understand them. They've just started implementing them here in AZ, and they do keep the traffic moving. Back in NJ and several other North East states, they've had them for years. But if people are unfamiliar with them, the noobies can certainly gum up the works. We've still got our share of interminable traffic lights as well (I can think of one where the wait for the left turn arrow is nearly 6 minutes!!).
