>>>Aye, but this was photographed in the USA.

>>>BTW, what's wicked about them? I was thinking of mentioning roundabouts, and whether you guys have caught on to the advantages of them yet. I sometimes marvel at what a good idea they are, and how they keep the traffic moving, instead of those interminable start-stop-start-stop cross-roads with traffic lights that you seem happy to endure.

>>They are a big help, once the locals understand them. They've just started implementing them here in AZ, and they do keep the traffic moving. Back in NJ and several other North East states, they've had them for years. But if people are unfamiliar with them, the noobies can certainly gum up the works. We've still got our share of interminable traffic lights as well (I can think of one where the wait for the left turn arrow is nearly 6 minutes!!).

>I once drove along, I think, Niagara Boulevard, nr. Chicktowaga (NY)(Buffalo) and was incensed at having to stop every 100 yds for a red light, at a junction (intersection). Now here they try to synchronise the lights so that if you catch the 1st on green, then you keep to the speed limit, in theory you should sail through all on green.

Not here in Toronto. I drive to the commuter train every morning and I can attest to the fact that driving in Toronto simply means driving from one red light to the next. There is an area on my trip where there are 4 sets of lights in about a 200 metre stretch. I always hit at least 2 of them.
