DATETIME(1998, 02, 16, 12, 34, 56) generates an error when it is replacing a VFP cursor's field that's derived from SQL datetime column.

Might sound silly, but are you absolutely sure that the field in the cursor is of data type DateTime? Sounds to me like it's not.
