>Movie stars get their money thrown at them - you don't buy their wares, you don't even hear from them. Musicians at least produce something that may even sound good. Teachers, they may even do some good, if they're good at it and if they love what they do, and I'm not aware that they're swimming in money. Chiropractors... well, I wouldn't know, didn't meet any. I did take my mother to one such bone-setter once, and he wasn't bad, she did feel better afterwards. And as for the lawn care... it's an American fetish I never really understood... but you can do that on your own with not too much trouble.

Some of us believe that religion (or faith, or whatever you call it - it seems some Christians don't like the word "religion") does have a value, and that there are, indeed, true believers.

But I would hesitate to call most of the well-known televangelists "true Christians". I just have read too much about them making use of "religion" for their own purposes. For all I know, that specifically includes the two leaders mentioned several times in this thread (Falwell and Robertson). IIRC, the Bible refers to that kind of people as "false prophets".
Difference in opinions hath cost many millions of lives: for instance, whether flesh be bread, or bread be flesh; whether whistling be a vice or a virtue; whether it be better to kiss a post, or throw it into the fire... (from Gulliver's Travels)
