I found few minor problems with this solution:

1) if the mouse is over the empty space of the grid the black long cursor is displayed

2) If we scroll to invisible portion of the grid and therefore use MOUSE CLICK, the record is highlighted.

These two problems make this solution not perfect :( I posted these problems as a question on the Russian forum. I'm also not sure my idea of keeping the object reference to the grid in tooltip timer is a safe one and would not introduce dangling references...
