What's the best way to set a textbox, editbox, combo box, etc. to a default value.

I read about setting default values through the Table Designer under the Caption "Default Value." That sounds like what I might want to do, but whenever I try it I get an error that my Default Value does not match the type of my field.

My field is state, character, 2

My default value is:
state="FL"

Thanks for all your help everybody. I used to be a heavy-duty machine language programmer for a bunch of years writing mainframe system software, and had alot fewer problems than this VFP gives me. But I am not afraid of it, just a little frustrated and impatient at times. I guess I'm just having one of those days when nothing works.
